Why Bromo?
The existence of the main tourist object is in form of a crater of a mountain and a blend of sunrise on the east providing
a unique sensation. An enthralling journey rhythm early in the morning through the vast sea of sand, climbing steps to the top. A popular cultural ritual related to Mount Bromo is the Kesada Ceremony. The origin of the Yadnya Kesada Ceremony dates back to the era of the Brawijaya dynasty from the Majapahit Empire.
The princess had a daughter named Roro Anteng, who, after growing up, was supposed to marry Joko Seger, a man from the Brahma caste. When the Majapahit Empire experienced a decline with the entry of Islam in Java, the relatives of the empire and their friends moved to the east and built and administration around Tengger, but they did not have any descendents. They climbed Bromo and meditated asking for descendents. Later, a magic voice said that the wish was granted, on the condition that if they have children, the last child must be sacrificed into the Bromo crater. Roro Anteng and Joko Seger agreed, and they were granted 25 children. However, they failed to keep their promise, so the God threatened to send them disaster. A disaster did hit, the Bromo crater erupted fire and the last child named Kesuma
disappeared, and another magic voice said that each month, on the 14th day, a ceremony providing gifts for God must be made at the Bromo crater.
